One of my favorite...

Christmas songs.  I love this song.  I think it focuses on what Christmas is really about: caring for others. As I get older, I realize that the best gifts we can give are time and who we are.  I am not saying I have mastered this as I struggle with it regularly, but I do recognize that it is important.  As someone who places probably a bit too much value on material goods, I am trying to re-focus for the holidays.  It is not about gifts as much as it is about the thought behind it.

I love finding just the right gift for people, but I think that the gift of time is perhaps the most valuable.  I freely admit that I obsess over time: will I have enough time to accomplish what I want day-to-day and in my lifetime?  Will I regret how I've spent my time?  Was I generous with my time?  There is a fine line between being generous with my time and being over-committed.  At this moment I feel over-committed, but that is December.  In my quest to "not miss anything," I have over-booked myself.  I am trying to set aside time to just BE.  Time to be with Dave; time to be alone and write; time to dream and wish about the future and all it holds; a chance to find better days.

Better Days  By: Goo Goo Dolls
And you ask me what I want this year
And I try to make this kind and clear
Just a chance that maybe we'll find better days
Cause I don't need boxes wrapped in strings
And designer love and empty things
Just a chance that maybe we'll find better days

So take these words
And sing out loud
Cause everyone is forgiven now
Cause tonight's the night the world begins again

I need someplace simple where we could live
And something only you can give
And thats faith and trust and peace while we're alive
And the one poor child who saved this world
And there's 10 million more who probably could
If we all just stopped and said a prayer for them

So take these words
And sing out loud
Cause everyone is forgiven now
Cause tonight's the night the world begins again

I wish everyone was loved tonight
And somehow stop this endless fight
Just a chance that maybe we'll find better days

So take these words
And sing out loud
Cause everyone is forgiven now
Cause tonight's the night the world begins again
Cause tonight's the night the world begins again
